Villa Badem, Turkey

It is several years since I first sent Iain and Laura Currie to Kalkan but I remember that they had a good time. When I sent them more recently, I didn't realise they would end up having a very superior villa built just outside Islamar which we can now offer to all our clients.

While the town has become a more sophisticated tourist destination over the years, and it has certainly grown with the building of new hotels and private villas, its enviable position and views still make it a favourite with Real Holidays. In more recent years we have been asked by previous visitors for accommodation in the village of Islamar, twenty minutes or so inland from Kalkan as you drive towards the Taurus mountains, which allows easy access to the town and harbour but a much quieter and more authentic base. A great advantage is that it is several degrees cooler up in the hills than down on the coast.

It is several years since I first sent Iain and Laura Currie to Kalkan but I remember that they had a good time. When I sent them more recently, I didn't realise they would end up having a very superior villa built just outside Islamar which we can now offer to all our clients.

This very contemporary house has five bedrooms, four on the first floor and a fifth on the ground floor with disability access and features. Three of the bedrooms upstairs have their own wet room, as does the bedroom downstairs, while a further bathroom on the ground floor means a total of five bathrooms to match the bedrooms.

The core of the villa is the 50 foot open plan kitchen and reception room with ample space for ten to dine in comfort, or in which to relax while catching up on your favourite sport on the satellite TV and 42 inch plasma screen.

Local restaurants in Islamar are just a two minute drive (or a healthier ten minute walk) and Kalkan an easy taxi ride when you don't feel like driving, but for the aspiring chef there is a fully equipped kitchen with hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer with ice maker and dishwasher. Worth packing your unused barbeque cookbook too, as there is a built-in barbeque by the pool as well. A utility room with a further fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer adds to the smooth running of the household.

But you are here to relax, and the infinity pool, heated throughout the year, with eight sun loungers, a hammock, and a shaded seating area under the spreading branches of a large almond tree, is where you will spend the bulk of the day, wondering where else in the Med you would get this level of comfort at this price.
