Each of the 65 villas has direct access to the beach and azure sea, teeming with exotic fish of every hue. The island itself is 100 acres of dense jungle, adding to the island’s castaway atmosphere and ensuring that each villa has plenty of privacy from closest neighbours. Unlike so many Maldivian resorts Soneva Fushi is large enough to take a couple of days to get your bearings and as you cycle around the island it is not unusual to take a wrong turn on the many paths that criss-cross the island. A visit (or two) to the award winning Six Senses Spa is a must, and for honeymooners the couples massage is an indulgent way to end the day.

The local reef offers plenty of spectacular snorkelling opportunities, and turtles and dolphins are often to be seen from shore, and superlative dive sites in this under populated atoll offer scuba-divers the chance to see whale sharks and manta rays amongst other wonders.

Delicious food prepared with fresh produce from the island’s organic farm is served in three restaurants, and the island has a world-class wine cellar.
