A relaxed retreat on the southern shores of Grenada, Petit Bacaye provides the ideal escape from everyday life, a real Caribbean hideaway
The bay and its little offshore island are remote, silent apart from the movement of the birds and fishing boats. The English owners, Peter Pilbrow and Julia Montgomery, have recently completed an extensive refurbishment programme in order to make your stay even more comfortable.
There are now six properties in total, three one bedroom cottages, one two bedroom cottage, one three bedroom cottage and one suite. All the rooms have newly fitted kitchens and have wooden floors and terraces which open out onto the gardens and sea. They are all en suite and are simply but tastefully decorated with four poster beds, mosquito nets and fans. All have wooden louvres to enable a cooling breeze into the rooms. All the properties also have a hammock.
There is an excellent bar and restaurant on the site, overlooking the sea, which is open for lunch until 5pm and for bar snacks until 7:30pm. Self catering is easy at Petit Bacaye. It is possible to buy fish straight from the fishermen who land their catch on the beach daily, and there is a BBQ guests can use. There is also a supermarket within a ten minute walk which sells the essentials, and more comprehensive supermarkets within a twenty minute drive.
Swimming and snorkelling are both on your doorstep or you may prefer to spend your days swinging in your hammock and catching up on your reading. Grenada is a beautiful island, with a large national park perfect for walking and trekking. It also has some of the finest dive sites in the southern Caribbean, and one of the prettiest towns in the West Indies, St. Georges. Should you decide to explore the island, jeep hire can be arranged for you and this will enable you to explore the island further, such as swimming in the Concorde Falls, and visiting some of the spectacular beaches on the island such as La Sagesse Bay.
Petit Bacaye remains an ideal destination for both families and couples looking for and is the perfect hideaway for the romantic and independent traveller.
