A charming and relaxing retreat with a very personal touch
The Maison Mnabha, in the heart of the 12th Century kasbah, is the creation of brothers Peter and Lawrence Brady, who have lovingly restored this old riad into a truly special place to stay; the only English run riad in Marrakech.
The Maison Mnabha has 5 comfortable and simple rooms, each retaining a traditional Moroccan architectural feature, such as the intricate hand carved plasterwork. There is 1 double room on the ground floor, which has its own private entrance, 2 twins and 1 double occupy the upper half of the riad, and share a beautifully tiled patio. A private staircase outside one of the twins leads to a single room with a private terrace, which is rented only to friends travelling together or to a family of 3 as it does not have its own bathroom facilities.
The rooms are air-conditioned in summer and can be heated in winter. Each room has a very well stocked mini-bar. The roof terrace is a great place to relax. A delicious breakfast of seasonal fruits, warm pastries and fresh orange juice is served here, and in the evening it is just the place to enjoy a cocktail from your mini-bar and enjoy the views over the Royal Palace and the Atlas Mountains in the distance.
Located as it is in a friendly and welcoming neighbourhood, the Maison Mnabha is a particularly reassuring place for female travellers to stay, and the area is always well populated, but lacks the intensity of the main medina. A 20 minute walk away you will find yourself at Djmaa el Fnaa. Undoubtedly the main attraction of Marrakech, the Square really comes to life in the evenings, when it is a hive of activity, where throngs of people gather to be entertained by snake charmers, acrobats and Berber story tellers.
Peter and Lawrence will do their utmost to make one feel at home, and they treat each guest with genuine hospitality and friendliness. Having lived in Marrakech for many years they are a fountain of local knowledge, and are always at hand to give as much assistance as you might need to make your stay in Marrakech as memorable and successful as possible.
