La Casa in Collina

La Casa in Collina is successful mix of the old and the new with an unrivalled position in the southern Marche hills.

It is the owners of our properties that make them special and the success of Peppé and  Kim Burelli’s seven room hilltop hideaway is as much about their background as restaurateurs and knowing what customers want, as it is about their skill in transforming a deserted ruin into a contemporary hotel.

The whole building had to be reconstructed using the original stones and it was by being constantly on site while the project developed that the owners were able to make sure that the traditional exterior became a front piece for the design led interior. The lounge areas with their pale tiles, vanilla white furnishings and luxurious sofas, immediately relax the weary traveller. Open brick fireplaces and local shutters balance the modernity, while bedrooms feature bleached beams and cream marble tiles with under floor heating, setting off the dark wood of the extremely comfortable king size beds. All the rooms feature LCD televisions, DVD players and state of the art bathrooms.

The infinity swimming pool has to be unique in this area, with an equally infinite view of those undulating Marche hills and the Sibillini Mountains on the horizon. You might drag yourself from here for a quick workout in the gym, but you will probably be equally compelled to explore some of the picturesque hill towns within a few kilometres, all seeming to begin with Monte…something. Ortezzano is the exception, with its ruined castle, church of Santa Maria and two Gambero Rosso restaurants. Quite possibly you won’t want to miss a night of Kim’s cooking, or that of Nello, the couple’s equally hospitable right hand man, who seems never to stop working. Local produce predominates, but with refinements that reflect Kim’s training.

With the coast only half an hour away and the mountains not much further, there is plenty of opportunity to lose any pounds gained, although you may decide that a lazy coffee or ice cream in Ascoli Piceno’s beautiful piazza, is enough exertion.
